History
At The Willows, we believe that every child deserves access to a high-quality, broad, and balanced History curriculum—regardless of ability, additional needs, race, gender, or background. Our History provision reflects this ethos, ensuring all pupils are supported to develop into confident and capable young historians.
Through Quality First Teaching, effective scaffolding, and thoughtful adaptations, all learners are enabled to access the curriculum and make meaningful progress. Lessons are designed to build knowledge and skills in a way that is accessible and engaging for all.
This structure of the curriculum allows for progression in both historical knowledge and skills, with tasks adapted to suit varying needs within the cohort.
Our History curriculum is rooted in the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum, enriched with the values and ethos of The Willows.
As an ‘I can’ school, we are committed to providing all children with the opportunity to access the National Curriculum, regardless of their starting point.
Through History, pupils gain:
- A strong foundation in historical knowledge
- Transferable skills including analysis, communication, and empathy
- A sense of curiosity about the past and its relevance to the present and future
- We aim to nurture analytical thinkers, tolerant individuals, and confident communicators who are inquisitive about the world around them and their place in it.
