Careers at The Willows
As a school we have a holistic approach to careers across all year groups from L1 – Post 16. We recognise that the skills gained through an effective careers programme are vital to our young people becoming successful adults later in life. Every opportunity is taken to ensure our pupils can set themselves high aspirations and goals to work towards as well as making informed decisions about their future pathways.
Although careers lessons are currently delivered through the Preparing for Adulthood curriculum for pupils in KS2-4 and through stand-alone lessons for Post-16, pupils are regularly encouraged through all curriculum areas to develop those life skills that will be important to them in future years – e.g. communication, independence, organisation.
In addition to timetabled lessons, all pupils have access to:
- Visits to local employers
- Visits from local employers/services
- Workshop days
- STEAM days/events
- Access to Preparing for Adulthood embedded throughout school
- Regular discussions with parents over future plans through the annual EHCP review process.
When relevant, pupils in KS3, 4 & 5 also have access to:
- Visits to colleges and other training providers
- Regular opportunities to discuss transition with the school’s transition officer
- Individual careers interview with a careers advisor
- An appropriate, extended work experience placement
