Geography

At The Willows School, we aim to foster a lifelong love of Geography by providing children with engaging experiences that inspire awe, wonder, and curiosity about the world around them. Through a rich and meaningful curriculum, children are encouraged to explore the similarities and differences between people, places, and environments, developing a deeper understanding of the diverse world in which they live. Our Geography curriculum supports the development of confident, independent learners who understand their place in the world and the impact of their actions—both positive and negative—on the planet. By nurturing curiosity and broadening their horizons, we prepare children not only for their time beyond The Willows, but also to become responsible global citizens.

The Geography curriculum at The Willows School follows a carefully sequenced programme that builds progressively on the knowledge and skills acquired in previous years. It is designed to be relevant, engaging, and accessible to all our learners, enabling them to make clear and measurable progress throughout their time at school. Our curriculum is adapted from the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework and the National Curriculum for Geography. It is structured around four key areas: locational knowledge, place knowledge, human and physical geography, and map skills and travel. These areas are revisited and deepened over time, ensuring a coherent and well-rounded geographical understanding.
