British Values

British Values at the Willows School

At The Willows ‘British Values’ and SMSC permeates through and is embedded in the school’s curriculum and supports the development of the ‘whole child’. Our aim is to nurture our pupils on their journey through life so they can grow into safe, caring, democratic, responsible and tolerant adults who make a positive difference to a modern Britain.

In accordance with The Department for Education we aim to actively support the values of democracy, rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of different faiths and beliefs and during consultation time we address current issues and events as they arise. These values are closely linked in our own school ‘I can…’ motto promoting respect, confidence, ambition, creativity, determination and enthusiasm and provide an environment which promotes kindness and caring to one another.

As well as promoting British Values and SMSC, we actively challenge pupils, staff or parents expressing opinions contrary to the fundamental British values, including ‘extremist’ views and principles. All Willows staff receive annual Prevent training and are kept up to date with any new guidelines.
